What you will learn

Excel essentials

25 minutes

Workbooks, sheets and cells

Workbooks contain worksheets. Cells are identified using a column letter and row number. B3 means column B, row 3.

Practice: Create a table with Item, Quantity, Price and Total columns.

Clean data and formatting

Keep values numeric and apply currency and date number formats. Save a copy before modifying business data.

Practice: Enter five fictional store products with quantities and unit prices.

Formulas and organization

35 minutes

Calculate with formulas

Formulas begin with =. Multiply two cells using =B2*C2 and sum totals using =SUM(D2:D6).

Practice: Create five line totals and a grand total.

Sorting, filters and references

Sort the complete table to keep related records together. Filter by one or more fields. Absolute references like $B$1 stay fixed when copied.

Practice: Sort by price and filter for low-stock items.

Inventory mini-project

30 minutes

Build a reorder dashboard

Track SKU, item name, quantity, cost, and reorder threshold. Compare quantity to the threshold using IF.

Practice: Prepare five example items and identify which need restocking.

Check and share your work

Manually verify two formulas and a total. Do not share private store data without permission.

Practice: Explain your formulas and prepare an example workbook for review.

Practice quiz

Select one answer for each question. This is a browser-only self-check, not Academy course credit.

1. What does cell C4 mean?
2. Which formula adds B2 through B6?
3. What begins a spreadsheet formula?
4. How should you sort a table?
5. How should prices be entered?

Final mini-project

Create a helpful prompt, improve the response and write a short reflection on the accuracy checks you performed.
